After New York, 21st Street

Hello World... Then we left like fire finding smoke... Hello

The Charles W Cushman Collection of the Indiana University Archives

558 DeKoven St, Chicago IL (ca.1949) I bumped into this collection of 1,241 color slide photo's from Chicago via a similar collection of Charles W Cushman's intriguing period snapshots of New York, ca.1940-1960. His work was all meticulously documented shooting journals that were acquired along with his equipment and collection by the Indiana University Archives. In his journals Cushman gives dates and locations down to the cross streets, and in some instances even the house number has been included. However over the years entire streets have vanished from Chicago in the name of blight prevention or progress, we've gained highways and exuberant but lonely fields of parking but have sadly broken the the long straight line of history between Cushman's journals and our experience. But the photographs are still here, preserved in uneasy colors. The photograph was taken in 1949 it's subject was likely 558 DeKoven St, the building on the left. The backyard

Glory Hollow's

fig.1) impromptu dutch injected work sheet  The envelope in her hand is neither warm nor fresh. It's been sliced open along the top, revealing a sheet of yellow paper folded up inside. She's holding it like a wet spider, but its no surprise when Stanley takes it from her. Pree looks at him, she doesn't like what she sees. Stanley is a rigid and cantankerous wind. The hairy ball of his belly is a brutal announcement that he's had something defenseless for lunch. After off handedly declaring, "it's more similar to math then economics," he was escorted to Afterfollow and then sent by train to Glory Hollow. Pree thinks of him as being fish-like and hammer dull. Someone that arrives late and lingers too closely over the cake pile. Something which he's frequently points out, is not a crime. understanding... What, sorry! I must of dozed off

Via Chicago Art Magazine There's way too much, friend of my friend is on my blog slog going on here. I wasn't able to find any up to date editorial mission for the site which makes a project like this all the more disappointing for Chicago. Without a clear direction beyond the current haphazard articles being outlined, It's hard to say why I should continue to visit something like this. All of the writing is proportioned the same, whether its an essay, a review, or an interview. It makes the overall feel, the texture and the weight of the articles and the entire enterprise feel vapish. The State of (visual ) Art Then over here Kathryn makes a comment that frankly might make Apollinaire proud. As quoted, Worrying about editorial is “like organizing the kitchen cupboards while some dude bleeds to death in the living room.” Apollinaire's opinion on such matters aside, this statement is nothing more than a qualifier for shoddy oversight. She is then quoted, “We publish two

Flat4: Untitled (Carnival) M Duguid, C Olson, EC Brown

The spinner rack is stocked with cards and essays for viewers  Flat4: Untitled (Carnival), ran in December at Floor Length and Tux. This Program featured the work of Meg Duguid and Catie Olson. EC Brown contributed a collection of essays written by a diverse group of folks on the topic of Chicago's apartment or Indie Spaces. This collection also, Untitled, can be found at this link  (it looks as though this collection was removed and this link is no longer active my apologies). Happily, my snark is included at the very end, pages 46-48. A 2nd draft of this piece appeared here . Selected essays from it also appear here at the Bad At Sports blog. I also contributed a brief statement for Duguid and Olsons work at Flat4, as well as a recipe for Macaroni and Cheese that was printed in a booklet provided with a complimentary CD of selected musics. Thank you all

Songs from a Cherry Land

There's a honky tonk angel watching over me His name is Sam and he's something to see Everything good that's ever happened to me happened after Sam walked away from me - Naked Penis on a Horse  A tiny tiny women drops everything in her arms behind Ontario and then she walks away. Ontario continues to arrange the cabinet without notice. When she turns around to connect the plsymic oncord with its dopple couple a bright light snaps on above the table. Suddenly Meyer is very visible. He's sitting there with his legs splayed out like they're partners in some match or game of sports. He looks to Ontario and says, Speared by its dreams of sleep, metropolis gushes with the romance it cannot keep.  Oh Frango Frango Frango, Ontario yelps.
